Autonomous and decolonial pedagogies, social movements and education in Brazil and the UK

The seminar will bring together academics and activists working at the interface of social movements and formal educational institutions from Brazil to the UK. The aim is to hold on event on the thematic of autonomous and decolonial pedagogies in Brazil and the UK, in which we seek for interdisciplinary connections on forms of thinking, doing politics, and its educational practices in formal (Higher Education) and informal educational spaces. In this event, we intend to have a space of exchange between Brazil and the UK to discuss the challenges and possibilities on thinking and practising autonomous and decolonial pedagogies beyond university and higher education, but that also can contribute to Durham’s decolonisation agenda.

2 pm – 3:30 pm: papers presentation with question/answer 

Daniela Mussi – Popular education and the reinvention of politics in the 21st century.

Alana Moraes – Indigenous knowledge practices, land pedagogies and open science: The Guarani Mbya case in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

Francesca Bernardi – Traversing education borderlines: A discussion on non-hierarchical and autonomous pedagogy and language.

3:30 – 4:00 – Coffee Break  

4:00 – 5:00 – Collective discussion

Four to five speakers giving very short provocation, then break-out groups for online attendees, in person breakouts for those in person.
