IAS Fellows’ Lecture – Are We Entering a New Age of Global Apartheid?
November 8 @ 5:30 pm
Public Lecture by Professor Catherine Besteman, Colby College
Political reactions to the ongoing European refugee ‘crisis’, the vibrant discussions about a border wall across the US-Mexican border, and the rise of neo-nationalist political parties in the global north suggest that the world is facing a new reckoning with mobility. Are the new regimes of labor and militarized mobility control taking shape across the global north ushering in a new form of global apartheid? The talk will assess the global implications of a hierarchical labor market dependent upon differential access to mobility in relation to the massive investment in militarized border regimes by the global north.
This lecture is free and open to all. Registration is not required to attend in person.
