IAS Fellows’ Public Lecture – Better Together: creating and nurturing social networks for leveraging educational change

December 1 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Public Lecture by Professor Alan J. Daly, University of California, San Diego

Efforts at improving educational systems in support of better achievement for students are commonplace across the globe. These reforms are typically enacted using a variety of formal structures, processes, and accountability levers to improve performance.  However, while these more formal, technical approaches at improving education are important and have been well documented, what appears to be missing in the change equation, and much of the research, is attention to the relationships between individuals through which change flows and reforms are enacted.

Ultimately, change processes emerge and are maintained through interpersonal relationships, and it is the interdependence of social ties that may well moderate, influence, and even determine the direction, speed, and depth of a change.  As such, better understanding the role of relationships in change is critical. This public lecture will highlight findings from recent research in social networks and offer insights into the role of social side of supporting educational communities from a leadership and policy perspective.

This lecture is free. Places are limited and so any person interested in attending should register interest in advance to reserve a place to [email protected] Places will be confirmed within 48 hours of receipt (subject to availability).
