The rise of life, the ascent of man and the history of the world has been accompanied by volcanism in all of its marvellous variety of forms. Our past has been, our present is and our future will undoubtedly be, riddled by the impact of this fundamental force of the nature of the Earth and terrestrial planets. Volcanic sciences have matured to a critical juncture where the previously unimaginable is being discussed. Will we live in a future where our planet is managed not only in terms of climate, but also in terms of volcanism?
